Decisions, decisions, decisions
There are many choices you will need to make defining what you want in a new web site. Many of these will determine not just the price of developing a new website but, most importantly, if the website will be successful for you. We are here to help you understand your choices so our final product will be the best for you.
How to get started?
The good news is we are here to help. Just take a few minutes to review the information here. Check out the information for existing websites and then take a peek at the Design gallery. Then call us. Our website designer will sit with you and go thru everything, step by step, answering your questions.
When you get it, we will generate a written quotation detailing your choices in plain English.
Your Domain Name is your Internet address
Your domain name should say who you are. Our domain, BillMeyersWebDesign, says what we do. Domain names can be of any length up to 67 characters. You can hyphenate names but we recommend not to.
How to find a Domain Name
WHOis is a convenient resource to research available domain names. You will most likely get a better deal with a hosting company package but this is the easiest place we have found to do your homework. There are now 47 different types of names available from .com and .org to .club and .restaurant
A website hosting company is where your website lives
Now that you have decided on a name, you need to find a place to store your future web site. This is your website host. Most professional hosting companies, like the one we recommend, iPage, package domain registration with hosting services. iPage will automatically put your information into your domain registration. Hosting averages $125 a year but introductory deals abound. iPage offers deals like $90 for the first 3 years.
Commonly, at your first consultation, we will review your choices and walk you through the process of getting your domain name and host so you can avoid being taken advantage of with hidden charges.
